Green Island – Friends and Memories

On the Taiwan Fun Times blog I usually focus on general information about places I visited.  My goal is to give a little information and a few photos to the reader  so they can decide if it may be a place that they would like to visit.  I am kind of introducing Taiwan, so the blog is really about Taiwan not about me.  My friends that I traveled with to Green Island have informed me that they are not camera shy and that it is ok to use photos that we took together.   So this blog post is about friends and memories not about scenery.

A few of my memories-

There was a long line to get gas as there is only 1 gas station but we got through quick.  I loved the scooters because they were “funky”.  That is just my personality. The more that I found wrong with them the more I appreciated how well they ran and how that was all that I really needed.  The needles were broken off of the gas gauge and fuel gauge and the odometer didn’t work either.  By night fall I realized that a big percentage of scooters there had no tail lights or brake light.  But the coolest thing of all is that our key would fall out of the ignition when we were driving.  We resolved that by tying  it to the mirror so we wouldn’t loose it when it fell out.  One of my funniest memories is when we came out of the diving shop outfitted in wet suits and were to drive our scooters  the area where we were to snorkel.  I am like wait, I don’t have my glasses.  Lena asked if I would feel more comfortable if she drove and I said yes.  We jumped on the scooter and realized that something was wrong…. crazy wrong….the scooter wouldn’t move at all.   We got off and before we even had a chance to analyse or discuss the dilemma a guy walked over and lifted the rear end of the scooter straight up, slid it over and set it down.  Not a word was spoken but we were good to go.  The scooter stand was stuck in a drainage lid grate.  Now we are off flying down the road trying to catch our group.  Then Lena says, “we have to turn around.”  Why?  ”Our key fell out of the ignition and we have to find it.”  Luckily she drove right to where the key fell out, found it right away, tied it to the mirror and were off eventually catching our group.

Mosquito and I found a geocache and saw a Honda Civic customized into a Mercedez Benz.  I  included photos of our first lunch, our first dessert and the BBQ dinner.  Thanks to Bear for doing most of the cooking.

To all the members of our group please share your memories in the comment section below.

601 thanks for reminding me of that. I remember the expression on your face. The length of that tunnel was not what you expected!

Bear….as I recall we lined up on the wall and were going to jump at the count of 3. I counted to 3 and jumped….I guess faster than you guys counted because when I came up from the water and looked you were still on the wall. Then you jumped:)
