Linkou Forest Trail

Linkou is a growing city located about half way between the Taoyuan International Airport and Taipei City.  Linkou literally means mouth of the forest or entrance to the forest.  As expected Linkou has a large forest but surprisingly most residents are not aware of it.

One reason for the lack of awareness is that the forest is not readily visible.  Linkou is located on a mountain plateau.  To see the forest you need to be in a place where there is a drop in elevation.

If you are in the area and would like to take a walk in the woods this can be your new adventure.  The entrance is hard to find and I would suggest looking for it on Google Earth first using these coordinates.  25 03.908N   121  23.846E      To make it easy just copy the coordinates and paste it into Google Earth Search

I hiked it once two years ago.
I enjoyed it. You see the expressway on the top of mountain.

Just hiked it today – a bit difficult to find but between using the coordinates in Google Maps and saving the map image above to my phone it was easy enough – several buses stop about .5km away from the starting spot. Trail is decently signposted in Chinese (we matched the characters en route) and there are yellow and white flags hung on trees along the way as well. Some spots towards the end are starting to get overgrown, but nothing is too wild or unmanageable. Had a great time, took about 1.5 hours for the trail itself, and we were alone on the trail (beyond a group of men taking photos above the expressway – ?). And Baoqingfu Temple has potable water along with curious dogs!
